President Obama

This past week, President Obama gave a speech to the public schooled children in the United States. I did not watch the entire speech, as I had to return to educating my own children. But I did listen to the first 10 or so minutes…

And I was heartened by his initial comments – he emphasized over and over again that you can do WHATEVER you want to do with your life – that the only thing standing in your way is YOU and how much work you put towards that goal.

I could NOT agree more, Mr. President! So all of you parents out there who really WANT to homeschool, but feel intimidated by the prospect of it, or are scared at the level of lifestyle change involved in it….it’s time to get off that fence and PLAN for HOW you will homeschool – not IF you will!

Our president himself agrees that you CAN do it!

PLEASE understand that taking control of your children’s education is a big deal. But it’s not AS big as you may think.

We have this illusion that schools produce education, when in fact that is not true. At their best, schools provide the environment for learning, but education starts and ends with each individual. Your child is responsible for his or her education – your role is to facilitate that education, to monitor, to mentor, and make sure that your children are moving along AT THEIR PACE in their educational pursuits.

We can’t bully children into learning. We can’t coerce them into learning. We can’t MAKE someone learn when they are not engaged.

In many, but not all, cases, homeschooling can produce a superior education for students. In other situations, the educational results may actually be the same as with public school, but the atmosphere of homeschooling can provide a better environment overall. The tightening of familial relationships, and the bonding that happens among family members is unparalleled.

As a parent, you get to know your children in a way that you cannot possibly know them when they are out of the house for 7 hours (or more!) a day. And your children learn the “real life” skills that schools do not teach, nor allow for. This gives them a head start in life, because they know how to manage themselves in the adult world.

I hope you are seriously thinking of taking the plunge. Even if you homeschool for only two or three years, you will NEVER regret spending that time with your children. Why give away the most meaningful part of your life to a system that is geared only towards mediocrity?

Last spring in MA, middle school students were taken to a mosque for a field trip. During that field trip, the students were told that Allah is the one true God.

And by the end, some of the boys joined in the mid-day prayers with the Muslim men.

Is Islam problematic? Maybe not. But is there a balanced presentation provided of Christianity? Of Buddhism? Of Judaism? Of Hinduism?

Is it possible that there is a concerted effort to promote Islam? Should there be a discussion about whether this is a good idea or not?

Again, KNOW exactly what your children are being exposed to. You may agree with it or not, but you MUST know. And you can’t always rely on your child being an accurate reporter on the circumstances – they may not know how to evaluate the information they were presented with in any other way than the way they are TOLD to evaluate it….

Why would teacher’s unions support Democratic candidates?

Schools are supposed to be LOCALLY managed and funded. And until the creation of the Department of Education in the 1970′s, that’s how it worked.

Now, public education is inextricably tied to the federal government, an arrangement that is unconstitutional (see Article 1, Section 8, and the 10th amendment) and untenable.

Nationalization of public education means that only ONE message will be sent in education. You may think this is a good idea. Maybe you even support the Marxist administrators in charge of public education. But what happens when the administration CHANGES and becomes more conservative? If you don’t like the notion of one administration in charge, then you should not be in favor of ANY administration being in charge.

TAKE BACK OUR CHILDREN!!! They are being snatched away right in front of your eyes, and with YOUR own consent. Our communities have had such a gradual decline away from TRUE freedom and liberty that it appears “OK” to be educating in this way.

PLEASE consider homeschooling – you can do it in SO many low cost ways….

More and more families are understanding the limits of public education

Are you nervous about starting to homeschool?

Here’s another piece of comforting information  - the number of homeschoolers in North Carolina have dramatically increased in one of its most populated counties.

I know it feels intimidating to do something so “different” than most others are doing. But isn’t making individual choices the heart of America? Don’t we prioritize individual liberty?

Taking control over your child’s education is not always easy, and it certainly requires a lifestyle change. But the results ARE worthwhile, and assuming you put forth a reasonable amount of effort, the worst you will do is match what the the public schools would have done at their best for your child.

This Big Government article warns that unions will be the downfall of education, but we MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER that anything diminishing education will trickle up to diminish and destroy AMERICA.

If we refuse to adequately prepare our young people to fully take advantage of the American way of life, what will become of this great country?

I think we can safely say that we are seeing the effects of gradual erosion accelerating us towards collapse.

I know it will be a big change. I know it will be hard at first. I know it will CHALLENGE you like nothing else ever will, or ever could….but PLEASE do not let your children stay in a failing environment!!!

DO NOT fall into the trap of believing that children’s desires for social experiences should trump their education. DO NOT fall into the trap of indulging children without requiring true responsibility – and TRUE responsibility is NOT simply going along with assigned homework and test taking.

Schools are a great idea, but have not proven that they can survive in the long term. Individual communities have allowed schools to get out of control in how much influence they have over our children – and therefore our future.

Children used to look up to older people for wisdom and guidance.

But when youth only stay in one room with other children their same age, they begin to prioritize the opinions and ideas of each other, over that of parents and other influential adults.

This is not natural, and has obvious deleterious consequences.

BRING YOUR CHILDREN HOME!

Homeschooling does involve sacrifice and trade-offs. My argument to you is that it is WORTH every sacrifice.

Do not involve yourself in government run schools.

Does the idea of homeschooling intimidate you?

I understand that feeling – quite frankly, it IS a big deal, involving big change.

But do NOT let that stand in your way! Just because something seems overwhelming is no reason to hold back.

Homeschooling involves a major “mindshift” of how your family works, the nature of education, and what you do with yourself on a daily basis.

The first mindshift to make is to pull yourself out of the mode that you have to cram information down your child’s throat all day long, every day.

Learning is very complex and occurs at all levels. Schools do not educate. They do brainwash by repeating the same messages over and over.

Your children are NOT learning academic material all day long. When you remove time for lining up for things, waiting for the teacher to be ready, waiting for discipline of other students, waiting for everyone to put their books away, moving from one room to another, etc…..

Actual academic instruction of an elementary level child can easily be distilled down to about 2-3 hours, maximum.

It’s the learning that occurs in the other 4-5 hours of a school day that should concern you as well.

YOU CAN HOMESCHOOL! Careful and mindful planning, along with support and encouragement (particularly in the first few years) will make ALL the difference. And you’ll have WELL educated American citizens, who know the TRUTH about this great country….

Perhaps the greatest aspect of the American dream is that it realizes the power of the individual. Did your teachers ever tell you that?

Will you stay with the pack, or move along your OWN way?

What “people” do, what groups do, is vastly different from what “a person” does.

Human nature will ALWAYS be the way it is, but YOU, a SINGLE PERSON, can be different.

Not all blind and mute people can achieve what Hellen Keller did. If she “bought into” the societal limitations placed on her, could she have transcended them?

Our schools can only teach to the group. That is the only way they can do their

job that we, as a society, have demanded.

However, the fatal flaw in this method is that “groups” will pull people down to the lowest common denominator. Always.

Homeschooling helps families RISE. Unencumbered by the restricti

ons and limits of groups, INDIVIDUALS ALONE can move away from the norm.

Refuse to be average!

I don’t know what the future brings. I do have a sense that we are on the verge of some very hard times. We have given up too much control to outside entities over our daily existence.

It’s time to take back control.

“When an opponent declares, “I will not come over to your side,” I calmly say, “Your child belongs to us already… What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community.”

What is your neighborhood school REALLY teaching its students? Our district has a proud banner declaring that they donated over $9,000 to “Mother Earth.” Hmmmm…. what does that mean?

Public education continues to fail. It is NOT producing an electorate who knows how to evaluate issues based on TRUE American ideals, but rather only from a bastardized revisionist historical standpoint.
