Curriculum Resources

This page is a work in progress, listing curriculum resources based on subject or type of curriculum.

How do you choose the best curriculum for your home education program?

Before settling on a type of curriculum, it makes sense to give some thought to your children’s learning styles. And by the way, each of your children may have DIFFERENT learning styles. You can learn more about learning styles here as well.

Some people learn best through experience – they like hands on types of approaches, they like learning through living. Others prefer workbook style approaches. Still others are more auditory, so they like to hear the material presented to them.

Thrown into this is mix is the added complication that YOU as a parent need to be OK with the approach of the curriculum! My younger son always LOVED projects. He liked to do crafty-types of things, and for the life of me….I just can’t do that very much. I swore when I started homeschooling that I would never make a diorama. My son LOVED the idea of a diorama.

Compromise of course is important, but you also have to be realistic about how long you can do something you really don’t enjoy.

Luckily, there are enough curriculum choices and educational approaches to fit just about any situation – but it will require some sifting and researching.

One resource you can count on to provide perhaps the largest choice of materials is Rainbow Resources.

Sign up to receive their substantial catalogue in the mail – it’s possibly bigger than your phone book! And they review most of the products they sell, so there is a description of each item.

Also, many people choose homeschool curricula that match their faith beliefs. In fact, some of the most well developed curricular choices come from Christian based companies. However, I will try to include ALL kinds of curricula choices, including secular selections, as homeschoolers are a very diverse group.
